Students experiencing Science

Students in Year 6 at Turramurra North PS were anxious about their transition to high school. The Building Bridges project provided opportunities for some of these students to learn more about the high school learning environment. They were excited about working with high school students and saw the benefit of experiencing what it was like to learn in a high school. They were keen to share their Building Bridges experience more broadly.

The students negotiated a brief: to design and produce an information product that will assist students with the transition from primary school to high school. As part of the design process all Year 6 and Year 7 students and their parents were surveyed. The resulting DVD was designed to address the questions and concerns identified by students and their parents. A calendar depicting the students' experiences during the Building Bridges program was also produced.

Students were involved in every aspect of the process. This project was STUDENT CENTRED and teacher facilitated.

Reflections on Enterprise Learning

"Our start at high school would have been easier if we had seen the DVD..... High school looks really exciting on the DVD." "It was cool working with the high school kids..... And helping other kids who go to high school was really interesting." "We learnt all about making DVDs. Working out the production was a lot of fun."
