Assessing Student Enterprise Skill Development Student Enterprise Survey

Assessing Student Enterprise Skill Development Student Enterprise Survey

A simple way of assessing the enterprising learning of young people is by using the following student survey instrument. The survey was developed by Erebus and was used by large numbers of schools during the Australian Government's 2004 Action Research to Identify Innovative Approaches to, and Best Practice in, Enterprise Education in Australian Schools. The survey has also been used by NSW government schools participating in the Building Bridges project.

The simplest way of administering the tool is by using it before and after enterprising activity (such as an enterprising project). It is important to discuss the meaning of words with students – the dialogue is important and valuable. Students should understand that they are not just striving to achieve curriculum outcomes – they are also striving to be more enterprising.

For a much fuller picture of student progress, you may also choose to utilise the teacher and parent survey tools. Again – using these before and after enterprising activity allows for external perspectives on the enterprising learning of young people, which can be considered against students' own survey perspectives. Remember – teachers and parents complete the survey when thinking about particular students – not themselves!!
